woke up at 9 am today. it might seem like sleeping in a little bit, but considering i'm 13 hours jetlagged i think that’s fair. dr. wu taught me how to ride a bus and take the mrt, which is the very nice subway system they have here. he went to his university, and i went exploring, planning on visiting the national taiwan normal university. pretty much just wandered around for a while. got to the university by trial and error. walked for like 20 minutes in one direction, then didn’t find it and walked back. thing is I’d take so many turns i'd get lost and have to ask for directions back to the mrt station.
you may be wondering. “if he’s asking for directions why not just ask how to get to the university in the first place?” well the answer is simple. mrt is easy to say in chinese. do you know how to say university? I don’t. really nice people. everyone speaks more english than i'd expect, this girl named rina was actually going to the mrt and we had nice conversation for like 5 minutes, with only a few problems. i'm learning to talk slower and more clearly, that seems to help.
anyway, after like 3 hours, i found the school. they had internet, so I found a nice hostel and made a reservation for the next day. (fun fact, that’s where i'm writing this from) they also recommended language schools. if i can’t find a job soon, I might enroll in a school and apply for a student visa, we’ll see how it goes. then I wandered home. forgot what bus dr. wu and i took to get to the mrt so i got on one that went to a word i remembered him saying and it ended up dropping me off pretty close to their house. i still got lost, but at least i figured out how addresses work here.
then the wu’s and i went to a nice korean restaurant and had a really good meal. all the food here is really good, and like dirt cheap, full meal for a dollar fifty. also there are more veggies and stuff, so i'm eating healthy yaaay.
then i went to bed after looking at a grocery store and talking with mrs. hu and one of their daughters, rina. (i meet a lot of rina’s here) slept like a baby.
